Page 37-38 Your Body Is God's Temple
In this episode:
- We talk about King Hezekiah and what we can learn from his example in 2 Kings.
- We also hear from Ruth as she shares how she has learned to handle change.
- We will also hear from Dr. Peter. Daniels on how to handle change from his own life. This is very helpful.
Luke 12:7-8 - "Indeed, the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Don’t be afraid; you are worth more than many sparrows. I tell you, whoever publicly acknowledges me before others, the Son of Man will also acknowledge before the angels of God."
Jeremiah 29:11 - Then you will call on me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you. You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart. I will be found by you,” declares the Lord
Hezekiah was a God-fearing man. God gives us the same choice today what are we doing to look after God‘s temple which is our bodies?
How does Ruth handle change?
Serenity prayer - God, grant me the Serenity to accept the things I cannot change... Courage to change the things I can, And Wisdom to know the difference.
- As I get older change gets a little more treacherous. Change can cause anxiety. It can also be exciting.
- During change information is powerful. During change communication really helps and is healthy.
- If I’m going through change, guaranteed it’s going to be uncomfortable. I must recognize that life isn’t fair and not compare.
- The very best way to embrace change is following the Lord because he is the same yesterday today and forever.
- God is with us every step of the way in change. And what is he saying? He saying, "trust." Proverbs 3: 5-6
The challenge of change
On page 43 in
the book are seven comments from Dr. Peter Daniels from Australia. It’s called "The Challenge of Change"
- Recognize that God is the provider and stabilizer in change
- Keep your mind on the things that you want and also on the things that you do not want
- Be nice to people, be patient, give God the glory, and do not let your mind be determined by failure.
It is Well With My Soul
The incredible background to the hymn, "It is Well with My Soul." Written by Horacio Spafford. He lost everything overnight in a fire, he also lost his son shortly after. Then, only his wife survived the sinking of the ship and his four daughters died. The hymn was penned near the place where his four children perished.
King Hezekiah
On pages 74 and 75 of
the book we talk about eight things that happened when King Hezekiah re-instituted Passover.
It is recorded that Hezekiah honoured and kept the Passover and here is what God did:
- God forgave all their sins
- People were healed people physically
- There was a time of great worship and joy. They were happy.
- The word of God was being taught
- The people were blessed and their prayers went right to heaven
- God restored financial abundance
- The King encouraged people to trust the Lord and then then he worked with the to rebuild the walls to protect them from their enemies
The application is King Hezekiah humbled himself before God and we must do the same and begin repairing our bodies like they are God‘s temple. We need to repair our bodies physically, emotionally, and spiritually.
